Hello and welcome to my site. My name is Tim Tynan and I am a multi-media producer and writer specializing in new media, science and technology. My work with American Indian youth and experience with tribal communities led me to complete my Master's degree in Land Resources studying the impacts of motorized boat traffic to wild rice. While completing my degree, I wrote and produced the USDA's environmental justice material including a 15 minute video on the Chippewa Flowage (see more). Now a Ph.D. candidate in mass communication, I continue my work with Ojibwe youth and currently co-direct the Tribal Youth Media Project at the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal College. The current focus of my research is the relationship between youth identity, the filmmaking process, and science knowledge production.

In addition to the research, I've continued to produce video pieces for the University of Wisconsin in several capacities. I was tapped to produce the
outreach video for the Life Sciences Communication Department in the spring of 2008. I'm also leading the production and design of the state's first environmental video web-channel, which includes a series of producer training videos. The last few months I've contributed to the editing and production of Sea Grant's newest video for Lake Michigan. The 17 minute piece addresses the Cladophora algae epidemic.

Before graduate school, I owned a bookstore/coffee shop combination of my own design. Called "News & Brews" it was where I developed my fascination with podcasting and authorcasting while preparing to publish my first book. While I no longer own the cafe, I continue to podcast for the Youth Media project
